Rutgers Freshmen Win Knecht Cup 4/13/2009
All Rutgers crews advanced to the Grand Finals of the Knecht Cup Regatta held this past Friday and Saturday on the Cooper River 2000 meter course in Camden, NJ. This is Rutgers’ first time competing in this regatta.
The Rutgers Varsity 8 was part of a field of 18 crews and finished first in their qualifying heat and 3rd in their semi-final on Friday to advance to the Saturday Grand Final. The finals were held in rain and strong quartering headwinds. Rutgers Varsity 8 finished a very close 5th place in the final, won by Temple.
A real bright spot for Rutgers was the performance of the freshmen. The Rutgers Freshmen won their qualifying heat and semi final in good form. They went on to win the Grand Final by a deck over 2nd place Bucknell.
The Rutgers 2nd Varsity also qualified for the Grand Final, finishing 4th. The Rutgers 2nd Freshmen 8 also finished 4th in their final.
Rutgers is back in action next Saturday when they travel to Hanover, NH to take on host Dartmouth and Boston University in their annual race for the Bill Cup.
