Rutgers Sweeps Delaware on Raritan 4/4/2009
The Rutgers Crew Swept all races against the University of Delaware on the choppy 2000 meter Raritan River course in New Brunswick, NJ. Strong quartering 25 mph tail winds, with gusts to 45 mph, made for rough water and very challenging conditions for the crews.
The Rutgers Varsity 8 had a good start, and a boat length advantage after 600 meters. Delaware fought hard though the middle of the race and kept Rutgers from extending their lead until the final sprint, where Rutgers moved away to win by 2 1/2 lengths with a time of 5:43.9.
Rutgers also won the 2nd Varsity, Freshmen, and 2nd Freshmen events by open water to complete the sweep.
Thr Rutgers Crews will be back in action next Friday and Saturday when they travel to Camden, NJ for the Knecht Cup Regatta being held on the Cooper River.
